What is an education record?
All Midtown HS counselors are required to report ALL educational records when requested by any postsecondary institution.
Education records are records that are directly related to a student and that are maintained by an educational agency or institution or a party acting for or on behalf of the agency or institution. These records include but are not limited to grades, transcripts, class lists, student course schedules, health records (at the K-12 level), student financial information (at the postsecondary level), and student discipline files. The information may be recorded in any way, including, but not limited to, handwriting, pint, computer media, videotape, audiotape, film, microfilm, microfiche, and e-mail.
What is the class rank?
Per the Atlanta Public Schools policy, "class rankings shall be generated based on the weighted numeric grade-point averages for students in the graduating class based on grades earned by the end of the first semester of the senior year."
Class rank is listed on the transcripts for all students and the notation below is on every transcript to remind all parties that nothing is final until the semester one grade posting:
*Class rank shown on the transcrript is calculated using numeric grades. Valedictorian and salutatorian are determined using class rank following the posting of senior year semester 1 / quarter 2 grades.
