PSAT 8/9 and PSAT NMSQT for Homeschooled Students - Senate Bill 63

  • On May 14, 2025, Governor Brian Kemp signed into law Senate Bill 63, which requires homeschooled students to have the same testing opportunities as public-school students in their home districts.  In Atlanta Public Schools, we offer PSAT 8/9 to our 8th grade students, PSAT NMSQT to our 10th and 11th grade students, SAT School Day to our 11th grade students, ASVAB and AP exams.

    This means that homeschooled students who legally reside in the Atlanta Public School district are eligible to participate in any of the above assessments if they are in the grade the tests are offered at no cost to the family.

    If you are interested in having your child participate in the PSAT 8/9 or PSAT NMSQT, please complete the form in the link below by September 21, 2025.  Requests submitted after this date will not be accepted.

    Registration for the 2025 PSAT 8/9 and PSAT NMSQT administration is now closed.  You may apply next fall for the 2026 administration.

     

    For students who may have an IEP, Section 504 Plan, or EL TPC Plan, accommodations must be requested by the parent or student from the College Board.  You can find information regarding applying for accommodations in the link below.

    College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools

     

    If you do not include your child’s accommodation and College Board SSD number on your application, your child will not receive his or her accommodation.

    Once your child’s legal residency in the APS attendance zone is verified, you will be notified via e-mail of your child's acceptance to participate in the selected assessment.  The time and place of the assessment will also be provided to you.

    Please be prompt on test day.  APS reserves the right to deny students the administration of the assessment if they are not present when testing begins for the day.

    Proper identification is required for a child to take high-stakes assessments such as those provided by the College Board. 

    Acceptable forms of identification include government-issued photo IDs such as a Georgia State ID Card, a valid Georgia Driver's Permit, Driver's License or a passport.

    Students without acceptable identification will not be permitted to test.

    The law requires that public school systems offer the same AP assessments available to currently enrolled students within the district to homeschooled students.  The following AP tests are available in the Atlanta Public School system.  APS will not accommodate requests for assessments not included in the following list.  Note, not every school offers every assessment.  Your child will test where the AP assessment is offered.

    You will be contacted by the AP Coordinator at the school where your child will test with school and district-related details, including any nominal fees.  Note: All students in Atlanta Public Schools are charged these fees.  There is a REFUNDABLE cancellation fee of $40 due at the time of registration at the school.

    For students who may have an IEP, Section 504 Plan, or EL TPC Plan, accommodations must be requested by the parent or student from the College Board.  The College Board’s deadline for requesting AP exam accommodations is January 16, 2026, to ensure they are in place for the 2026 AP exams.  You must submit requests and documentation through your school's Accommodations on College Board Exams (SSD) coordinator via the SSD Online platform. It is strongly recommended to start the application process well before the deadline, as approval can take several weeks.   You can find information regarding applying for accommodations in the link below.
