A Message from Your Principal
-
Dear SPARK Families,
At SPARK, STEAM learning is alive in every classroom—and it’s inspiring to see how our Dragons are using their creativity and problem-solving skills to make a real difference in the world around them.
Our school-wide project-based learning focus is fighting food insecurity in our community. In partnership with Helping Hands Ending Hunger, students are collecting unopened food items from our cafeteria during breakfast and lunch. These items are carefully cataloged and counted by students, then packaged for donation to our students and community partner, Intown Cares.
But the work doesn’t stop there! Each classroom is also contributing fresh herbs and vegetables from their Aerogarden, while our environmental science students tend and harvest produce from our rooftop garden. Together, these efforts all coalesce around one powerful goal: countering food insecurity locally. Whether through agriculture, food collection, or fundraising design, our students are applying what they learn in meaningful, real-world ways.
We are proud that SPARK is already Cognia STEM certified, and we are working toward the elite designation of state STEAM certification. You’ll notice your child integrating subjects, journaling about their thought processes, and weaving the arts into their learning journey.
To celebrate and share this incredible work, we invite you to join us at two special events:
✨ STEAM Night – Our annual showcase featuring SPARK’s STEAM programming along with community partners and vendors who support our mission.
🥐 Pastries & Parents – The following week, parents are invited to stop by between 7:15–7:45 a.m. to enjoy breakfast pastries while exploring student STEAM journals. This is a wonderful chance to see your child’s progress, hear about their learning in their own words, and even share your feedback with them.
We hope you will join us for these celebrations of student learning. Thank you for your ongoing support in helping our Dragons grow as innovators, problem solvers, and community leaders.
With gratitude,
Dr. Jennifer Toney
