Excusal Notes
Notes requesting for absences/tardies to be excused (e.g. for illness, medical appointments ...) must be received within 3 school days of a student's return to school.
Parents/Guardians/Medical providers may email requests to MHSAttendanceReports@atlanta.k12.ga.us or provide paper notes for students to bring to the front office. Students can also turn in paper notes to staff at the tardy desk when entering through the cafeteria in the morning.

COVID Related Absences

Because students are no longer automatically required to isolate for 5 days per APS policy, the number of school days missed due to COVID may vary. To ensure that a student's attendance record is updated appropriately, parents/guardians should email requests for excused absences due to COVID (and other illnesses) each day that a student is out sick, or provide a paper note within 3 school days of the student's return to school.

Early Check Out Procedures
The latest Early Check Out time is 3:00 PM for both parent/guardian pick-up and student self-checkout.
A student is considered absent for a whole day if they check out prior to 11 AM or arrive after 11AM.
You do not need to email the attendance office in advance if you are picking up your student.
Parent/Guardian Pick Up:

- Please bring your photo ID / driver's license with you to the front office (at entrance on Charles Allen Dr near the big pencil).
Students cannot be released to individuals without identification. - Front office staff will verify that the person picking up the student is approved on Infinite Campus.
Students cannot be released to individuals not listed on Infinite Campus. - Front office staff will call into the classroom for student to come to the front office while you sign the check-out logbook.
- If picking up student during their lunch period or a break between classes, please coordinate with them the day before so they know to come to the front office at the time you are picking them up.
- Please bring your photo ID / driver's license with you to the front office (at entrance on Charles Allen Dr near the big pencil).
Student Self-Checkout:-
- Parents must email their written permission to MHSAttendanceReports@atlanta.k12.ga.us
* at least 24 hours in advance AND
* copy the corresponding classroom teacher on the email (so the teacher knows when to release the student) AND
* send the same message to student on Schoology (in case a student needs to show the permission to a substitute teacher)
For example, if student is checking out during 2A, please copy the student's 2A teacher on that email. We cannot call students out of classrooms for self-checkouts.

Instructions on accessing your Schoology account: Schoology Parent Access - Remind your student that they MUST come to the front office to sign the logbook before they leave campus. Students who leave campus without signing out at the front office will have their absence recorded as UNEXCUSED.
- These procedures apply to ALL students, including those who are 18 years of age.
