    School Visitors & Volunteers

    • All visitors to Mary Lin Elementary School must have an official state-issued form of identification (driver's license, military ID) in order to sign-in using the Raptor Visitor Management System.

    • Family members are welcome to visit and enjoy lunch with their students starting on Monday, August 19. We ask that lunch visitors adhere to our safety protocols and procedures, which will be shared with you when you sign-in to the front office. Visitors who are joining their student for lunch do not need to complete the Level 2 or Level 3 process, as you will only be interacting with your student during lunchtime. Lunch visitors will sign-in using the Raptor Visitor Management System and receive a temporary nametag/badge. Please display this badge clearly.

    • Parents/guardians who would like to visit as a Mystery Reader will also sign-in using the Raptor System. These visitors will have limited interaction with students, supervised by the teacher.
    • If you want to volunteer with us at Mary Lin, there are two different "clearance" levels that community members can complete. Volunteers should either complete Level 2 or Level 3 clearance.

      • Level 2 Volunteers are allowed to spend extended supervised time with students (i.e., classroom helpers, holiday party volunteers). To become a Level 2 volunteer, please fill out the attached form and bring it, along with a scanned copy of your Driver's License, to Ms. Ashley Mason in the Mary Lin front office. There is no cost associated with becoming a Level 2 volunteer.

      • Level 3 Volunteers are allowed to spend unsupervised time with students (i.e., field trips). To become a Level 3 volunteer, please email Ms. Ashley Mason at marylinvolunteers@apsk12.org and she will walk you through the background check process. Level 3 volunteer clearance lasts for two calendar years. The background check process is $45 + fees, paid to the APS Office of Safety and Security.

        • Why do we ask that parents complete the Level 3 Volunteer process to go on field trips? In some cases on field trips, the parent chaperone(s) and teacher are together the entire time and, therefore, the parent chaperone doesn't need to interact with students unsupervised. However, we must consider the following possibilities during a field trip, which is why we ask all parents to have a Level 3 Volunteer check.

          • Parent chaperone needs to take a smaller group of kids because the class needs to be split up, per venue regulations.
          • Parent chaperone needs to take a student to the bathroom.
          • Parent chaperone needs to stay with the rest of the class while the teacher handles an incident involving students.
          • Parent chaperone needs to take a small group of students to the restroom in a different area of the venue.
          • Parent chaperone needs to stay with one or more children that have been split up from the rest of the group, for any reason.
          • In the case of emergency, the parent chaperone may need to take over supervision of the class or a small group of children with or without the teacher present.
        • Because we have no way of knowing what situations may arise during an off-campus field trip, we ask all field trip volunteers to go through a Level 3 check. The safety and security of our students is paramount, and this is the protocol we are following to ensure that our Rockets are safe and comfortable while on field trips.
        • What about the Kindergarten Zoo field trip, where every child is invited to bring a parent? Does every parent need Level 3 clearance? In this case, Level 3 would not be required for all parent chaperones because each parent is allowed to supervise/be alone with their own child. Any students who do not have an adult guest will stick with their homeroom teacher.
