• All Atlanta Public Schools students are required to complete 75 hours of community service to meet graduation requirements. Community Service refers to service that a person performs for the benefit of his or her school or local community. These hours must be completed during a student's high school years. To reap the most benefit from community service, students are encouraged to seek service opportunities that: 

    • Are aligned with their interests.
    • Encourage them to step outside of familiar environments and expand their horizons.
    • Will strengthen their sense of civic engagement.
    • Will broaden their educational, developmental, and social goals.
    • Will contribute to them becoming responsible, active citizens.

    To avoid procrastination, students are strongly encouraged to complete a minimum of 20 community service hours per school year for three years, and complete 15 community service hours during the fourth and final year of high school (for a total of 75 hours over a four-year period). 

    HOW TO FIND, EARN, AND LOG YOUR COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS

    Students must use the volunteer platform Tiersphere to sign up for community service projects and track their hours. Tiersphere is an app that can be found in MyBackpack.  Students should use their regular school information to log in. In Tiersphere, students will find volunteer opportunities that have been vetted/pre-approved by  APS.  If a student wants to volunteer (or has already volunteered) with an organization that is NOT in Tiersphere, they must use THIS FORM to gain approval for those community service hours.
