Title I is a part of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB). This Act provides federal funds through the Georgia Department of Education to local educational agencies (LEAs) and public schools with high numbers or percentages of poor children to help ensure that all children meet challenging State academic content and student academic achievement standards.
LEAs target the Title I funds they receive for public schools with the highest percentage of children from low-income families. These funds may be used for children from preschool age to high school. Title I is designed to support State and local school reform efforts tied to challenging State academic standards in order to reinforce and enhance efforts to improve teaching and learning for students. Title I programs must be based on effective means of improving student achievement and include strategies to support parental involvement.

Title 1 Benefits:
- Title 1 funds supprt the instructional program of the school.
- Provide additional staff including: tutors, home school liaisions,
- Purchase additonal materials and supplies for the school.
- Pay for instructional field trips/buses for students.
- Support parental involvement efforts.
- Provide professional development for administration and teachers.
The Title I, Part A Program division provides technical assistance, resources, and program monitoring of LEAs to ensure that all children have an opportunity to obtain a high quality education and to achieve proficiency on high academic standards.
- Technical Assistance - The GADOE Title I Education Program Specialists, Grant Program Coordinators, and other Program Specialists interpret State and federal law and provide guidelines for implementing Title programs, address specific questions and concerns regarding Title programs, and provide information and assistance in implementing various requirements and guidelines.
- Resources - The GADOE provides a number of electronic tools and documents to local school districts to ensure effective program implementation. We also provide regional meetings and a statewide summer conference for local school district and school personnel to provide professional development in areas related to the implementation of Title programs.
- Monitoring - The GADOE regularly monitors Title programs at the local level to ensure compliance with regulations as well as to assure the quality of the program and the instructional delivery being utilized with at-risk populations.
