  • Short-Term Disability (STD)

    Short-Term Disability (STD) coverage is available through MetLife and helps replace a portion of your income during a temporary disability:

    • Benefit Coordination: Offsets income received from other sources (e.g., sick leave, vacation pay, state disability)
    • Low Plan:
      • Pays 50% of your weekly pre-disability earnings
      • Maximum weekly benefit: $500
    • High Plan:
      • Pays 60% of your pre-disability weekly earnings
      • Maximum weekly benefit: $1,500

    Long-Term Disability (LTD)

    Atlanta Public Schools offers Long-Term Disability (LTD) coverage through MetLife. This benefit provides income protection if you become totally disabled and unable to work:

    • Benefit Amount: Up to 60% of your gross annual salary
    • Elimination Period: 180 days (benefits begin after this period)
    • Benefit Duration: Payable up to age 65 in most cases, with adjusted periods for disabilities occurring after age 65
    • Premiums: Based on age and salary
    • Enrollment: You must apply within 31 days of employment

    Both STD and LTD benefits are designed to help provide financial support and peace of mind during a period of medical recovery.
