Separation and Its Impact on Benefits
-
Thank you for your service to Atlanta Public Schools. As you prepare to transition from your role, we are committed to providing a smooth and well-informed offboarding experience.
Below is important information about how your employee benefits are impacted when you leave APS. Some benefits end immediately, while others may continue under specific conditions. In some cases, action is required on your part to maintain or transition coverage.
Before your separation, please ensure your mailing address is current in the Employee Self-Service (ESS) portal. This ensures you receive your W-2 form, separation notices, and any additional benefits-related correspondence in a timely manner.

- You have 60 days from the date of your COBRA offer to make an election.
- If elected, coverage may be continued for up to 18 months (or longer in certain cases).
- A COBRA information packet will be mailed to your home address within 30 days of your official separation date.
-
