  • APS is committed to improving literacy proficiency scores across the district, launching targeted initiatives to ensure every student becomes a confident, proficient reader. We’re building a clear, structured approach to reading instruction, creating a strong foundation to support every student’s journey to reading success. Think of this approach like building a house: we begin with a solid foundation, then progress to framing, and finish with the final details that bring the structure to life. Similarly, we’ve outlined our phased, structured approach below to ensure literacy success for every APS student.

Phase 1 - Foundation and Formation

  • Foundation - The first phase of our initiative was designed to further reorient the district toward the Science of Reading. As you may know, the Science of Reading is a body of research that explains how students learn to read and how to best teach reading to our students.

    Formation - Reading Proficiency The district identified gaps in the curriculum that could be addressed with supplemental resources as the aim is for every student to become proficient.
