Gifted Mentorship / Internship Program
What is it?
The Gifted Mentorship/ Internship Program is an academic program that allows students to gain career-related work experience to complement and enhance their high school education. Academic credit is earned for each semester course of internship or mentorship completed. Mentorship and Internship credits are applied towards high school diploma requirements.
How does it work?
Gifted Mentorship allows students to begin the career planning process in which they empower themselves as they navigate their post- secondary options. Gifted Internship provides an outstanding opportunity for students to experience the world of work and explore their possible career interests. Prospects are able to apply the knowledge and skills obtained from the Gifted Mentorship curriculum to real world situations. This experience allows students to investigate a profession and connect with a mentor prior to beginning their post- secondary education.
Who does this benefit?
Allowing students to be placed in your company allows you to show students the necessary components needed to thrive in your profession. It allows you to influence the skills and traits of possible future employees. Participation in our programs helps build community relationships with stakeholders in our educational system benefiting all involved!
Students are exposed to several events and trips while participating in the Gifted Mentorship/Internship Program. During the Fall semester students particpate in a college tour and a symposium that exposes them to various careers in small group sessions. In the Spring semester students report to their internships and end with a capstone presentation. Below is a link to the 2014 Gifted Synergy Symposium.
