Phase 2 - Curriculum Adoption
-
Thank you, APS stakeholders! Phase 2 – Curriculum Adoption is successfully complete. We truly appreciate your engagement in the in-person/online review of the district’s K-12 ELA curriculum options, as well as the vendor fairs conducted. Your participation helped us ensure we met the goal of selecting a K-12 ELA curriculum that aligns with Georgia Department of Education reading standards and the Science of Reading body of research and expanding this work to include 6-12 grade bands.
On March 3, 2025, the Atlanta Board of Education approved the following K-12 ELA curricular materials that will be available for our schools starting during the 2025-2026 school year.
K-5 APS Elementary Schools:
- Following the March 3, 2025, Atlanta Board of Education meeting, each elementary school had the additional opportunity to review and vet the Benchmark Advance and HMH for an additional two weeks until Friday, March 14, 2025.
- At the end of these two weeks, each elementary school was able to select either the Benchmark Advance or HMH curricular resources to pilot for one year during the 2025-2026 school year. At the end of the 2025-2026 school year, each elementary school will make a final decision on the K-5 ELA curricular resources for the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 school years.
6-12 APS Schools:
- All APS 6–12 schools will use HMH, 6-12 for Literature as their ELA curricular resources for the next three school years.
While Phase 2 is now complete, we’ve included the summary below to provide a recap of key engagement activities and reference materials shared throughout this phase.
