Howard Middle School!   Whether you're a seasoned player or new to the game, there's a place for you on our team. Come be a part of our tradition of excellence and let's make memories that will last a lifetime on the lacrosse field!

What is Lacrosse?Lacrosse is a dynamic team sport that combines elements of basketball, soccer, and hockey into one thrilling game. Originating from Indigenous communities in North America, lacrosse has evolved into a modern sport enjoyed by people of all ages and backgrounds. Played with a stick called a lacrosse stick and a rubber ball, the objective of the game is to score goals by shooting the ball into the opposing team's net.

Why Lacrosse is Fun for GirlsGirls' lacrosse offers an exciting and inclusive environment where players can develop both athletic skills and camaraderie. Here are a few reasons why girls love playing lacrosse:

Team Spirit: Lacrosse fosters a strong sense of teamwork and unity among players. Whether you're passing the ball or defending the goal, every member of the team plays a crucial role in achieving success.

Physical Fitness: Lacrosse is a high-energy sport that provides an excellent workout for players. From sprinting across the field to dodging opponents, girls can improve their cardiovascular health and overall fitness levels while having a blast.

Skill Development: Lacrosse challenges players to develop a diverse set of skills, including hand-eye coordination, agility, and strategic thinking. Whether you're mastering the art of cradling the ball or executing precise passes, there's always something new to learn and improve upon

Empowerment: Girls' lacrosse empowers players to push their limits and strive for greatness both on and off the field. Through perseverance and dedication, girls can build confidence and resilience that will serve them well in all aspects of life.

Player Eligibility: Lacrosse is open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade girls.

    1. APS Physical Packets must be turned into Coach Abernathy ASAP. If your child played a fall/winter sport you do NOT need to submit a new APS Physical Packet. All questions and APS Physical Packets should be directed to Benjamin Abernathy  Forms can be found here.

Fees: $150.  Lacrosse is a “Club” sport at Howard, meaning we are self-funding with no financial support from APS. Club Dues for Spring 2022 will be $150. A PayPal link for payment will be sent out via email and placed on the Howard Girls Lacrosse section of the Howard Athletics website. Scholarships for students wishing to join clubs with membership fees can be requested through the school guidance counselor or PTO. We are committed to making sure dues, equipment and/or transportation issues do not keep any student from playing.

    • Start Early February each season
    • Typically Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-6:00 pm at Howard.
    • Students will have time to change in the locker room and will need to bring their stick, cleats, goggles, mouth guard, etc. to school on practice days.

Equipment/uniforms: Players need their own lacrosse stick, mouth guard, goggles, and running shoes/cleats that are appropriate for artificial turf. Uniforms will be provided.

Games: Games are held on Saturdays from the end of February until the end of April; most are double headers and are played at Atlanta-area private schools. Games are typically played at 9:00 am, 10:30 am and 12:00 pm; players should arrive 45 minutes before the start of the game for warmups unless otherwise notified.
