The American School Counselor Association describes elementary school counselors as “educators who are uniquely trained in child development, learning strategies, self-management, and social skills, who understand and promote success for today’s diverse students” (ASCA, 2019). Atlanta Public Schools Elementary Counselors offer direct and indirect services for students in the following ways:
- Career Development Lessons
- College & Career Motivation Week
- Social Emotional Learning
- Anti-Bullying
- No Place for Hate
- Small Group Instruction and Counseling
- Parent/Teacher Consultations
- Care/Attendance Teams
- Referrals: Cluster Resource Guides List (community services grouped by school cluster)
