2023-2024 Baseball Update

Posted by Mark Rebillot on 8/24/2023

2022-23 was another successful year for Rams baseball as we had over 50 players attend fall workouts and we were able to field three teams (39 players total) in the spring.  Our gold team played in the A division (60/90) in the Dunwoody Senior Baseball league for the first time in program history. Our Blue team had the best record of all three teams and lost a heart breaker 2-1 in 7 innings in the finals of the upper division in the Druid Hills Middle School baseball league.  And finally, our White team improved tremendously through the season and made the finals of the lower division in the Druid Hills Middle School league.

We are graduating an astounding 22 players (Beckett Boatright, Thomas Curd, Sam Dempsey, Henry Eckersley, Cash Fenhagen, Lincoln Finley, Charlie Frederick, Sammy Herd, Henry Lauck, Davis Morrison, Avett Monfalcone, Patrick Rebillot, Nick Treshitta, Sullivan Zern, Jackson Cumming, John Drake, Talan Goncher, Sam Heys, KJ Jelks, Graham Morris, Liam Valentine and Zachary Walker).  We especially want to point out that Sam Dempsey, Charlie Frederick, Patrick Rebillot and Sullivan Zern were the first players to play four years of Middle School baseball (starting at Inman) for our program.  For all of our rising 9th graders, we thank them for their dedication to our baseball program and wish them success in High School.  Go Rams!

For this next season (2023-24) our plan is to start workouts at the beginning of September.  If you aren’t already rostered to the DTH Fall 2023 baseball team please fill out this Team Snap registration.  Also, before your player can actually participate in anything you need to make sure to create a profile on Dragon Fly so you can upload your player’s physical and sign all necessary waivers.  More instructions and information can be found on the Howard Athletics page.

Fall workouts will occur a couple times a week during September and October at Walden Athletic Complex (Midtown HS baseball field).  We plan to incorporate arm care components this fall in addition to specific baseball skills (hitting, fielding, etc.) and hopefully more live action.  Our goal is to complement what each player is doing at their travel program and to provide those types of resources for the players that aren’t playing travel baseball.  The end goal for the fall program is to have the players ready for tryouts that will be held during the first couple weeks of November.  All interested players (in grades 5,6,7 and 8) are welcome to register and come out to all fall events.  Please reach out to any families with baseball players and ask them to register - especially at our feeder elementary schools.  We anticipate the cost to be about $100-125 for the fall program.

Baseball is a cut sport so we will set the teams (at least two) in November but the spring season doesn’t actually start until January.  Once our teams are set we will be incorporating a specific offseason plan for each player to make sure that our teams are ready to go when practices start in January.  We anticipate that our gold team will be playing in the B division (54/80) at Dunwoody this year.  The Blue team will be playing in the Druid Hills League (54/80).
