National Physical Fitness and Sports Month
May is also National Physical Fitness and Sports Month, highlighting the importance of physical activity for overall health and well-being. Regular physical activity can help prevent chronic diseases, improve mental health, and enhance the quality of life.
Children and adolescents aged 6–17 should exercise at least 60 minutes daily. However, only 23.9% of students met these guidelines in 2021, showing a significant lack of activity among youth and the need for increased efforts to promote physical fitness.
Check out these tips and resources to stay active:
- Set fitness goals: Start with small, achievable goals and gradually increase your activity level.
- Find activities you enjoy: Whether it's walking, running, dancing, or playing a sport, choose activities that you find fun and engaging.
- Incorporate physical activity into your daily routine: Take the stairs instead of the elevator, park farther away from your destination, or take short activity breaks throughout the day.
- Stay motivated: Join a fitness group, participate in community sports events, or track your progress with fitness apps.
