Stop The Bleed
in partnership with the Georgia Regional Trauma Advisory Committees Region 3
The APS Health Services department, in collaboration with Georgia Regional Trauma Advisory Committees Region 3, successfully delivered #StopTheBleed training to 323 APS transportation employees. This comprehensive training equips staff with life-saving skills to effectively respond to trauma events, ensuring the safety of students and staff in critical situations.
The initiative was made possible through the teamwork of the Health Services department, the APS transportation team, APS nurses, and the Georgia RTAC3 Stop the Bleed Instructors. As part of this effort, APS buses are now equipped with Stop the Bleed kits, providing essential resources for immediate response in emergencies.

Opioid Response
-
Opioid Response and Narcan Response
in partnership with Fulton County Board of Health Emergency Preparedness
In partnership with the Fulton County Board of Health Emergency Preparedness, APS Health Services is taking proactive steps to address the opioid crisis. Through this collaboration, APS ensures every school is equipped with Narcan (naloxone) to respond to potential opioid overdoses swiftly and effectively. Comprehensive training is provided to school nurses, empowering them to recognize overdose symptoms and administer Narcan when needed.
What is Naloxone?
- Naloxone is a medication that can quickly reverse an opioid overdose and help restore normal breathing. It comes as a nasal spray or injection and is safe to use, even if the person isn’t overdosing. Naloxone is an important tool for preventing overdose deaths and is recommended for anyone at risk of an opioid overdose or those who may need help in an emergency.
Who Should Carry Naloxone?
- Anyone who may witness or respond to an opioid overdose should carry naloxone. This includes:
- People who use opioids or have a history of opioid use
- Friends and family of individuals at risk of overdose
- First responders (police, firefighters, EMTs)
- Teachers, school staff, and community leaders
- Healthcare providers and social service workers
- Having naloxone on hand can save a life by quickly reversing an overdose until medical help arrives.
Where Can I get Naloxone?
- Naloxone is available at many pharmacies, community organizations, and health departments.
- Georgia residents can access free email-based naloxone through a partnership between NEXT Harm Reduction and Georgia Harm Reduction Coalition here: https://nextdistro.org/gachoice.
