(Thursday, November 18 | 12 PM) Atlanta Public Schools to Host State of the District Presentation, Showcase Classroom of the Future
Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Lisa Herring and Atlanta Public Schools (APS) will host the district’s annual State of the District Presentation, Thursday at 12 PM, at South Atlanta High School (800 Hutchens Road, SE).
The presentation will feature student performances and highlight recent district accomplishments – such as the cohort of 2021 APS high school graduates attaining the highest graduation rate in district history, and the district’s Academic Recovery Plan and other strategies to address learning disruption, wellness, and needed supports – as well as plans for reimagining the future of public education.
As part of that effort, Dr. Herring will introduce and provide details on the “APS 5,” which are five evidence-based practices that the district has prioritized and is implementing in all APS schools to increase student outcomes and fulfill its equity commitments:
Data: Utilizing data to drive all instructional decisions and ensure equitable outcomes for all students.
Curriculum & Instruction: Implementation of rigorous and culturally relevant and linguistically responsive curriculum with fidelity in all core content areas and instructional best practices in Tier 1 instruction.
Whole Child & Intervention: Implement a whole-child system of supports that integrates social-emotional learning, behavior, wellness, and comprehensive academic intervention plans.
Personalized Learning: Utilize flexible learning tools, technology integration, and targeted instruction to personalize learning for all students.
Signature Programming: Strengthen the implementation of signature programming across all schools.
After the presentation, Dr. Herring will take questions from media beginning at 1:30 PM and then lead a tour of the APS 21st Century Classroom exhibit space, which features the technology, resources and innovative instructional practices the district plans to implement in all schools.
