Atlanta Braves, Braves Foundation Provide Lunch for South Atlanta High School Teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week


Teachers at South Atlanta High School will get a special treat Tuesday, as the Atlanta Braves and the Atlanta Braves Foundation will provide lunch for them in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week.

South Atlanta is this year’s Atlanta Braves Hank Aaron All-Star Atlanta Public School, as each year since 2019 the organization has adopted an APS school for the purpose of helping the school meet some of its most crucial needs – from support for teachers and classrooms, to making improvements to the school facility and grounds, to providing experiences and support for students.

Lunch for teachers and staff will be provided by Dat Fire Jerk Chicken during the school’s three lunch periods: 

  • 12:30 – 1 PM
  • 1:05 – 1:35 PM
  • 1:43 – 2:13 PM

South Atlanta teachers and staff will be joined for lunch by:

  • Atlanta Braves Executive VP/Chief Culture Officer DeRetta Rhodes
  • Atlanta Braves Foundation Executive Director & Senior Community Affairs Director Danielle Bedasse
  • Atlanta Board of Education Chair & District 6 Representative Eshe Collins
  • Atlanta City Council District 12 Representative Antonio Lewis

F.L. Stanton Elementary School Becomes Seventh APS School to Earn STEM Certification in April


F.L. Stanton Elementary School
(1625 Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, SE) became the latest Atlanta Public School to earn Cognia STEM certification, last week.

The evaluation team from Cognia commended Principal Dr. Phyllis Earls and her administrative team at F.L. Stanton Elementary, located in the Douglass High School Cluster, for communicating an inclusive STEM vision and the school community for collaborating to cultivate a viable STEM culture.  

F.L. Stanton is the seventh APS school to earn STEM certification this month, joining Heritage Academy Elementary, Humphries Elementary, Herman J. Russell West End Academy, Scott Elementary, Springdale Park Elementary, and South Atlanta High School.
