Howard MS Students Featured in Smithsonian Channel Documentary About Obama Portraits Tour
David T. Howard Middle School students are featured in a documentary that chronicles their impressions of the official portraits of former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama.
Though the support of the Zeist Foundation, all APS fifth graders and students from Howard Middle were able to see the portraits when their national tour stopped in Atlanta last year at the High Museum. Howard Middle art teacher Mandy Lebowitz taught her students about the background and techniques of the artists who created both portraits and had them create their own self-portraits before attending the exhibit.
The documentary was produced by the Smithsonian Channel and can be streamed on the channel’s platforms. The segment featuring Howard students may be seen here.
