The awards honor Georgia high school student athletes, coaches, and staff members who have made an impact both on and off the field.

Two Atlanta Public Schools Students Awarded Amazon Future Engineer Scholarships Worth $40,000
North Atlanta High School senior Karen Palacios Echeverria and KIPP Atlanta Collegiate High School senior Montrell Mabry Jr. are among the eight high school seniors from metro Atlanta who recently were awarded $40,000 scholarships from Amazon.
The Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship program is a childhood-to-career initiative designed to inspire and educate millions of students each year from underrepresented and historically underserved communities to build life-changing skills that leverage computer science and coding to bring their dreams to life.
Recipients were chosen based on a variety of criteria, including their academic achievement, demonstrated leadership, participation in school and community activities, work experience, future goals, and financial need. Amazon partnered with Scholarship America to review the applications and select the 400 scholars. Scholars will also receive a paid internship offer at Amazon after their freshman year of college to gain hands-on, practical work experience with mentorship from Amazon leaders.
“Atlanta Public Schools is proud to celebrate our students for their talent and tenacity in a field that is essential across multiple industries,” said Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Lisa Herring. “In keeping with APS' mission to graduate students ready for college and career, the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship creates a career readiness pathway for students to learn and develop real-world experience.”
