Graduation Stories

Beecher Hills Elementary School is the cradle of valedictorians. Over the past eight years, six future valedictorians attended Beecher Hills for elementary school, including Carver Early College 2023 valedictorian Destiny Hudson.

Coretta Scott King Young Woman’s Leadership Academy (CSKYWLA) valedictorian and STAR Student Karen Gamez-Amador could not speak English when she started kindergarten.

Booker T. Washington High School counselors set a goal of $8 million in scholarship offers for this year’s class of seniors. Four stellar scholars, the Washington Four, surpassed that amount all on their own. The entire graduating senior class, many of whom have succeeded despite overcoming challenging circumstances, has now nearly doubled the $8 million goal.

Midtown High School’s valedictorian, salutatorian and STAR Student are twins:  Aran (valedictorian and STAR Student) and Sayan Sonnad-Joshi (salutatorian).
