Atlanta Public Schools Interim Superintendent Dr. Danielle Battle to Announce $1K Bonuses for District Custodians

at Barack and Michelle Obama Academy, Friday

BAMO custodian Darlene Murrah will show Dr. Battle some of her daily duties during a brief tour; Extra funds included in custodians’ paychecks on Friday

ATLANTA – In keeping with her commitment to Lead with CARE (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Empathy), Atlanta Public Schools Interim Superintendent Dr. Danielle Battle will announce a one-time bonus of $1,000 for all 170 full-time custodians in the district, Friday at Barack and Michelle Obama Academy.

The extra funds will be included in their paychecks on Friday.

During her visit to BAMO, Dr. Battle will announce the bonuses and then accompany the school’s custodian, Darlene Murrah, on a brief tour of her daily duties at the school she has kept clean for the past five years.

Though oftentimes overlooked, school custodians play a vital role in the safety and well-being of students and employees by keeping buildings and campuses tidy and clean. As a show of appreciation for increased services and support required to maintain clean and safe environments for students and staff, APS full-time custodians will receive the $1,000 bonus funded through a state allocation of ESSER II (CARES II).

State Superintendent Richard Woods requested – and the State Board approved – $8,751,579 in ESSER state set-aside funds to provide a one-time, $1,000 bonus for school custodians. Atlanta Public Schools applied for and was awarded, a grant from those funds to pay for the bonuses.
