(Wednesday, 10 AM) Mays High School to Celebrate District-Wide No Place for Hate Day with Living Art Exhibit
For the eighth consecutive year, Atlanta Public Schools has been named as an official No Place for Hate school district by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), and schools are celebrating it in various ways on “No Place for Hate Day” in APS on Wednesday, Oct. 25.
Mays High School will feature a living art gallery, where students will wear original artwork they have created to express their feelings about bullying and other expressions of hate they may have seen or experienced.
Additionally on Wednesday, students and district employees have been encouraged to wear the No Place for Hate colors – black and yellow – and Interim Superintendent Dr. Danielle Battle will read the anti-bullying book “Say Something” to all elementary school students, via video.
APS earned the No Place for Hate designation by way of all of its schools meeting the ADL’s criteria:
- Expose all students to the No Place for Hate pledge.
- Create proposals for at least three engaging school-wide activities, approved by the ADL, that inspire students and staff to become effective allies in creating schools that are free of bias, prejudice, and bullying.
- Submit reflections on the impact of the three activities.

(Thursday, 3 PM) Atlanta Dream, Microsoft Team Up for Basketball & Coding Clinic at Boyd Elementary School
The Atlanta Dream and Microsoft are collaborating on an initiative to inspire the next generation of female STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) professionals through basketball and coding.
The organizations are hosting after-school clinics at several Atlanta Public Schools over the next few weeks, where girls will spend an hour in a basketball camp led by members of the Atlanta Dream, and an hour in a STEM/coding session led by Microsoft staff members.
Approximately 60 girls in the afterschool program at Boyd Elementary School will participate in Thursday’s event. The STEM/coding session will be held in the media center, while the basketball clinic – featuring a Q&A and photos with a Dream player as well as a basketball skills and drills session – will be held in the gym.
