APS Students Show Growth, Gains During the 2023-2024 School Year According to Georgia Milestone Results
Students in grades 3-8 showed gains in ELA, Science, and Social Studies compared to 2022-2023
ATLANTA – Atlanta Public Schools students in grades three through eight produced gains in English Language Arts (ELA), Science, and Social Studies compared to the 2022-2023 school year results, according to results from the 2023-2024 Georgia Milestones student assessment, released today by the Georgia Department of Education.
This year’s scores indicate 35.7% of APS students in grades 3-8 scored proficient or above in English Language Arts (ELA) as compared to 33.3% for Spring 2022-2023, 28.0% scored proficient or above in Science as compared to 27.7%, and 25.5% scored at proficient or above in Social Studies as compared to 24.0%. Please note that the release of the Georgia Milestones Math assessment is delayed due to a new assessment and standards. We expect this data to be released in September.
“I am extremely proud of the work of each of our staff members to continue moving Atlanta Public Schools forward,” APS Interim Superintendent Dr. Battle said. “While the 2023-2024 results are a testament to the hard work of our staff and students, they also indicate that we still have work to do to improve student achievement.”
