(Thursday, 9 AM) Carver High School to Host State Superintendent, Receive Literacy Leader Award with 18 Other District Schools

 

George Washington Carver High School will host State School Superintendent Richard Woods in a ceremony to honor 19 Atlanta Public Schools recognized by the Georgia Department of Education as 2023-2024 Literacy Leader Schools.

 

The award recognizes schools for outstanding growth and achievement in literacy on the 2024 Georgia Milestones. A total of 324 schools statewide met the criteria to be dubbed Literacy Leader Schools. Schools will be presented with a banner for their achievement. Those schools that were recognized as Literacy Leader Schools last year will be presented with a ribbon to place on their banner. 

 

The 19 APS schools on the list this year are as follows (*Those in italics were 2022-2023 Literacy Leader Schools as well.):

  • Springdale Park Elementary School (Proficiency, Growth)
  • Willis A. Sutton Middle School (Growth)
