UPDATED APS STATEMENT ON SCHOOL OPERATIONS FOR WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 13TH IN THE WAKE OF STORM DAMAGE

ATLANTA – Atlanta Public Schools (APS) has made the decision to cancel school and administrative operations for Wednesday, September 13, 2017 to ensure the safety of our students and staff as cleanup operations continue in the wake of Hurricane/Tropical Storm Irma. This decision extends to all afterschool programs and extracurricular activities.

While the threat of severe weather has subsided, many of our schools remain without power. Concerns about the ongoing power outages, staffing coverage and dangerous road and sidewalk conditions make it necessary to close schools Wednesday.  Our APS operations team continues to work closely with power crews to bring affected schools back on-line, however many of our employees are reporting their power has yet to be restored.

We will advise parents and caregivers by Wednesday evening about reopening school Thursday. Parents and guardians of charter schools should pay attention for information from their individual schools.  For additional information and updates please see the superintendent’s latest blog post here.
