“Diary of a Wimpy Kid” Author Visits, Reads with APS Students
Jeff Kinney, author of the famed “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” book series will meet, greet and interact with more than 400 Atlanta Public Schools elementary and middle school students, today, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at South Atlanta High School (800 Hutchens Road, SE).
Kinney will talk about the latest installment in the “Wimpy Kid” series, “The Meltdown,” and provide students with signed copies of the book. His visit to APS is helping to launch the District’s “Race2Read: The 2 Million Minutes Challenge,” an initiative in which APS students, teachers, staff, parents and community members are encouraged to collectively read 2 million minutes. The campaign is being tracked using the web-based, mobile-friendly tool, Beanstack.

Initiative to Help Students Overcome Obstacles to be Introduced at Open House Event
Atlanta Public Schools will host an open house event to introduce a new initiative designed to help students at Crim Open Campus High School succeed.
The Wellspring Living Youth Academy Open House at Crim (256 Clifton Street, SE) will show the community the various programs and services available to students and their families.
Recognizing that many children face multiple obstacles as they navigate life, the Youth Academy provides access to much needed social, emotional, and academic interventions for students to empower them to overcome obstacles and move toward meeting both their academic and their life goals. The Youth Academy features support groups, career building skill sessions, personal development classes, as well as a food pantry and clothing boutique.
