APS Employees, ABOE Members, JROTC Students Give Back to the Community Through Annual Empty Stocking Fund/Santa’s Village Program, Thursday

ATLANTA – Dozens of Atlanta Public Schools (APS) employees, including Superintendent Dr. Meria Carstarphen, as well as Atlanta Board of Education members and JROTC students will volunteer to help make Christmas merrier for hundreds of families in Atlanta, and Fulton and DeKalb Counties through the annual Empty Stocking Fund and Santa’s Village initiatives, Thursday.

Cadets in the APS high school JROTC programs collected money for several weeks during the Empty Stocking Fund campaign, raising thousands of dollars. APS employees contribute during the campaign as well. The money collected was used to buy toys and gifts for needy families in Atlanta, Fulton and DeKalb Counties.

JROTC students and volunteers who work in the APS Alonzo A. Crim Center for Learning and Leadership will spend most of the day on Thursday bagging and distributing those toys and gifts at a facility on the city’s northwest side, dubbed “Santa’s Village.”
