Atlanta Public Schools’ (APS) new Atlanta College & Career Academy (ACCA), scheduled to launch at the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year, will provide more access to career pathways and prepare APS students for high-demand technical careers aligned with the economic and workforce needs of Atlanta and across Georgia.

An information session for interested students will be held Thursday, at the Atlanta Technical College Auditorium (1560 Metropolitan Parkway, SW). The ACCA will offer 14 career pathways and serve up to 1000 students.

The pathways include: Aviation Maintenance; Carpentry; Criminal Investigation; Culinary Arts; Cybersecurity; Dental Science; Early Childhood Education; Emergency Medial Responder; General Automotive Technology; Graphic Design; Hospitality, Recreation and Tourism; HVAC and Refrigeration; Patient Care; and Programming.

(Friday, 1 p.m.) Cleveland Avenue Elementary to Recognize Atlanta University Center Schools with S.W.A.G. Friday Event

Students from Cleveland Avenue Elementary School (2672 Old Hapeville Road, SW) will show alumni from the schools that make up the Atlanta University Center (AUC) – Clark Atlanta University (CAU), Morehouse College, Morris Brown College and Spelman College – what they learned about those institutions during the school’s monthly S.W.A.G. Friday event.

S.W.A.G. stands for “See What Achievement Gets,” and S.W.A.G. Fridays is an initiative Cleveland Avenue administrators developed this year as a means of helping students see and meet graduates of various colleges and universities, with the belief that exposing them to post-secondary institutions is vital to peaking a student’s interest in attending and graduating from college.

During the month, students created displays based on research they performed on the featured colleges and universities, including their location, mascots, school colors, types of majors and notable graduates. At the S.W.A.G. Friday event, students will showcase the displays they have created to alumni of the schools. Earlier this year, Florida A&M University and the state schools of Georgia, were recognized during S.W.A.G. Friday.

Members of the media are invited to attend all events on the weekly APS News Tip Sheet. If you have an interest in these stories, please contact Seth Coleman, Media Relations Manager.
