(Monday and Wednesday, 6 – 8 p.m.) Atlanta Board of Education to Host More Superintendent Search Community Meetings This Week
The Atlanta Board of Education will convene regional community conversations to receive input from stakeholders on the Superintendent search. The Board is committed to ensuring full transparency throughout this process. Come and share your valuable feedback as we work to advance Atlanta Public Schools. All meetings are held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

- Wednesday, October 30, at Benteen Elementary School (200 Cassanova Street, SE)
(Wednesday, 9:30 a.m.) APS Hosts Ribbon Cutting for Renovated Beecher Hills Elementary Building and Campus
Atlanta Public Schools (APS) will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly renovated facility and campus at Beecher Hills Elementary School (2257 Bollingbrook Drive, SW) in the historic Beecher Hills neighborhood in southwest Atlanta. The $9.6 million SPLOST-funded project has transformed the campus into a state-of-the-art learning facility. It features a new gym, a revamped computer lab, cafeteria and classrooms, a new art room, a secured entrance area and a new heating and air conditioning system.
(Wednesday, 4:30 – 6:15 p.m.) Atlanta Public Schools to Host First Ever Basketball Media Day
With high school basketball practice officially starting this week across the state, Atlanta Public Schools (APS) will host its first ever media day event for boys and girls basketball, Wednesday, October 30, 4:30 – 6:15 p.m., at Mays High School (3450 Benjamin E. Mays Drive, SW). Coaches and top players from the 12 APS high schools will talk about their prospects for the upcoming season. Last season, APS swept the state’s AA classification as the Douglass girls team and the Therrell boys team won state titles. Also, the South Atlanta boys team won the Region 6-AA championship. Most of the top players from all three of those squads return this season.

Atlanta Public Schools to Host State of the District Event, Quarterly Media Roundtable Next Week
Join Atlanta Public Schools (APS) as the District gathers for true and inspiring stories from The Epic of APS, the theme for this year’s State of the District event, Thursday, November 7, 10 a.m. – Noon, at the newly renovated Harper Archer Elementary School (3399 Collier Road, SW). APS Superintendent Meria Carstarphen will share a report out of the goals, accomplishments, and ongoing opportunities for Atlanta Public Schools. The community will gather for true and inspiring stories from The Epic of APS. Superintendent Carstarphen, along with the heroic students, educators and staff of APS, will narrate the 2019 State of the District, highlighting the victories, struggles and stalemates from the APS Journey of Transformation and our quest for excellence to ensure all students graduate ready for college and career. A media roundtable, featuring APS Superintendent Meria J. Carstarphen, will be held immediately following the event:
- 10:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. – Ribbon Cutting of the newly renovated Harper Archer Elementary School
- 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. – State of the District Address
- 12:15 p.m. – 12:45 p.m. - Media Roundtable Discussion
