Alvin Ailey’s Acclaimed Revelations Residency Program Returns to Atlanta

ATLANTA -- Media are invited to cover Revelations: An Interdisciplinary Approach student residency workshop.

The Ailey organization’s Revelations Residency student workshop is an innovative, curriculum-based initiative for public school students that utilizes Alvin Ailey’s American masterpiece, Revelations, as the inspirational framework for an in-depth study of language arts, social studies, and dance.

Led by former Ailey star dancer and master teacher Nasha Thomas, who was recently named a humanitarian hero by Good Housekeeping, Ailey’s unique residency program also guides students to explore new methods of discovery and learning, cultivates self-esteem as students are writing their own life stories.

Atlanta Public Schools’ Coretta Scott King Young Women's Leadership Academy (CSKYWLA), will host the workshop on Thursday. CSKYWLA was founded in 2010 to develop globally competitive leaders by providing a rigorous, college-preparatory curriculum. 

After the residency, participants will be inspired during a special performance by of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre, Thursday, February 20. The performance is being held specifically for Atlanta area public school students featuring Revelations, the must-see American masterpiece that has inspired millions in more than 70 countries and is considered the most widely seen modern dance work in the world. All of these activities are a part of the Destination Dance partnership initiative in Atlanta, which will deepen Ailey’s commitment to the city through collaborations with arts and civic organizations, using dance as a centerpiece for engagement.
