(Tuesday, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.) Grady Cluster Community Conversation: Future Use of Inman Middle School Building
Atlanta Public Schools (APS) will host a conversation on the future use of the Inman Middle School building and overcrowding in the Grady Cluster. The purpose of this meeting is to engage the community in conversations on how to address the impact of overcrowding in the Grady Cluster, specifically regarding the future use of the Inman MS building. This conversation is part of the larger APS Facilities Master Planning (FMP) Process. More information is available here: https://www.atlantapublicschools.us/Page/61492
(Tuesday – Friday) APS Honors Black History Month with Several Student Productions
A number of informative and entertaining student performances will be held in Atlanta Public Schools (APS) this week, as the District continues to honor Black History Month:
Tuesday, February 25, 6 p.m.: Sutton Middle School (2875 Northside Drive, NW) students will present “A Journey Through Time,” where they reflect on significant moments in our nation’s history.
Wednesday, February 26, 6:30 p.m.: Jean Childs Young Middle School (3116 Benjamin E. Mays Drive, SW) host a Black History Month program following its open house event for fifth grade families. The program will feature a saxophone solo by band teacher Albert Levy, student-led skits depicting significant moments throughout history, student dances and student tributes to current African Americans making a significant impact on society.
Thursday, February 27, 11:30 a.m.: Carver Early College High School (55 McDonough Boulevard, SE) students will present excerpts from “The 1619 Project,” an ongoing research project by The New York Times Magazine that re-examines the legacy of slavery in the United States.
Thursday, February 27, 5:30 p.m.: Continental Colony Elementary School (3181 Hogan Road, SW) students will perform “A Journey to The Wiz,” an ode to the renowned movie and stage play “The Wiz.” The performance, featuring Continental Colony students and staff who had to audition for their roles, will follow the school’s annual International Baccalaureate night.
Thursday, February 27, 6 p.m.: Students at Harper-Archer Elementary School (3399 Collier Drive, NW) will present “What Will You Be the First to Do?” where they will reflect on significant firsts in Black history and challenge each other to be the next generation of history makers.
Friday, February 28, 10:30 a.m.: Charles Drew Charter School (300 Eva Davis Way, SE) will host a mural and scroll dedication in honor of the school’s namesake, Dr. Charles Drew, the world renowned physician, surgeon and researcher credited with developing improved techniques for blood storage and preservation.
Friday, February 28, 7 p.m.: Students at John Lewis Invictus Academy (1890 Donald L. Hollowell Parkway, NW) will present “Emmett Till: A Stage Play,” which will recount the tragic story of a 14-year old African American who was lynched in Mississippi in 1955, after being accused of offending a white woman in her family’s grocery store.

Registration Opens Friday for Power Up 2020 Summer Programs, Providing Enrichment, Bridge Programs and Fun!
Atlanta Public Schools has taken Atlanta summers to new levels with Power Up, a comprehensive portfolio of engaging enrichment summer camps and programs.
Registration for the 2020 program opens on Friday, February 28.
Feedback from previous attendees has been overwhelmingly positive, and APS experts are gearing up for an even more amazing line up in the summer of 2020. Innovative and interactive programs will transform the way students think and learn, inspire confidence, and empower participants with the tools to be college and career ready.
Whether it's science, cooking, technology, sports, physical activities, music, art, games, or drama, Power Up is sure to have a session for every child to explore. Power Up is scheduled to run for four weeks in June from June 1, 2020 – June 26. Select programs may operate longer. Most programs will be free or low cost and provide lunch and transportation.
New this year, all rising sixth graders and rising ninth graders will have an opportunity to participate in a summer bridge program at their new school between July 20 and July 31.

APS GO Team Candidates Wanted, Deadline is Friday
Atlanta Public Schools is excited to announce that 2020 GO Team candidate declarations are now open! As a part of its Charter System model with the state, every school in APS has its own Governance Team or GO Team.
GO Teams are nine-member governance teams at every school in the district that work in a collaborative fashion with each school principal. APS designed the GO Teams to serve as a vital part of our school improvement efforts across the district. These teams are responsible for establishing strategic plans for their schools, voting on innovative school-based solutions and approving the school’s budget. Additionally, these teams can review school data and provide input to the principal related to school improvement.
Those interested in running for a parent/guardian or non-supervisory instructional staff member seat for the 2020-2022 term can declare their candidacy until February 28, 2020.
Parents and educators will be voting for two parent and instructional staff seats at each school. No experience is needed. Training and tools are provided.
