Atlanta Public Schools Celebrates Teachers with Virtual Teacher Appreciation Week Events This Week (May 4-8)
(ATLANTA) In this unprecedented school year, teachers all across the world have stepped up to show their true passion for their careers and their love for their students. Atlanta Public School (APS) teachers are no different.
As such, the District is honoring its classroom professionals with a host of fun, interactive virtual activities during National Teacher Appreciate Week (May 2 – 8) this week:
May 2 – 15: APS Rocks and Runs
Virtually cheer on participants as they run/walk 3 miles at a location of their own choosing. Proceeds benefit APS Teachers! www.atlantapublicschools.us/APSRocksAndRuns
May 4: Video Message from Superintendent Dr. Meria Carstarphen
You’ve got mail! Superintendent Dr. Meria Carstarphen delivers a heartfelt video message to our beloved APS educators!
May 5: SONIC Drive-In Restaurants Help Support Teachers Through Donors Choose
Any donation to an APS teacher’s project on Donors Choose will be doubled on this day, thanks to support from SONIC Drive-In Restaurants. A donation of $20 will become a $40 donation!
May 7: Messages to Teachers
Students, parents, caregivers and community member are invited to show their favorite APS teachers some love with appreciation posts on social media, using the hashtag #ThanksAPSTeachers
May 8 (4:30 – 5:30 PM): DJ Greg Street’s Virtual Dance Party
Teachers will close out the week by hitting the dance floor – or maybe the kitchen, den or living room -- DJ Greg Street from Atlanta’s WVEE-FM/V-103 hosts an Instagram (IG) Live party @apsupdate. (Note: You must have an IG account to participate.)
In addition to these events, there will be a virtual yoga session (May 5) and a virtual comedy show (May 6) for APS teachers only.
