Dr. Lisa Herring to be Sworn in as Superintendent of Atlanta Public Schools, July 1
A virtual media roundtable will be held immediately following the ceremony
ATLANTA — Dr. Lisa Herring will be sworn in as superintendent of Atlanta Public Schools (APS), 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 1.
The ceremony will be live-streamed on the District’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/AtlantaPublicSchools. Following the ceremony, a virtual media roundtable will be held, via Zoom, from 11:45 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
A Georgia native and Spelman College graduate, Dr. Herring brings more than 25 years of progress and achievement in urban public-school systems across the Southeast. She has a proven track record of success in school turnaround and academic achievement along with building strong partnerships across the entire community.
For the past three years, Dr. Herring served as Superintendent for Birmingham City Schools, stewarding the system to full district accreditation after it was put on probation prior to Dr. Herring’s arrival. Under her leadership, the system made significant strides moving its state-issued report card grade from an underperforming F to a passing grade of C. By focusing on “children first” and researched-based interventions, the district also decreased the number of F-rated schools from 22 to six and 67% of all schools improved on their individual state report card with 13 schools moving up a letter grade or more.
WHAT: Swearing-in ceremony for Dr. Lisa Herring as superintendent of Atlanta Public Schools. A Zoom media roundtable will be held after the ceremony.
WHO: Dr. Lisa Herring and the Atlanta Board of Education
(Note: Only Dr. Herring will be present for the virtual media roundtable.)
WHEN: Wednesday, July 1, 11 – 11:30 a.m. – live-streamed on the Atlanta Public Schools Facebook page: www.facebook.com/AtlantaPublicSchools
Virtual Media Roundtable, 11:45 a.m. – 12:30 a.m.
