Herman J. Russell West End Academy Staff to Meet Russell Family, Tour Russell Center and West End, Thursday

ATLANTA –  Brown Middle School has been renamed Herman J. Russell West End Academy, and teachers at the school are about to learn more about its namesake.

Thursday (10 AM), they will visit the Russell Innovation Center (405 Fair Street, SW) and meet with family members of the Atlanta native and Atlanta Public Schools graduate (Howard High School), an entrepreneur and businessman who founded H.J. Russell & Company, the largest minority-owned real estate and construction business in the country.

Later (2 PM), they will tour the Historic West End community, which the school serves, before returning to continue preparing for the first day of school, Thursday, August 5.

WHAT:          The teachers at the newly named Herman J. Russell West End Academy (formerly Brown Middle School) will tour the Russell Innovation Center, meet with members of the Russell family, and also tour the Historic West End community.

 

WHEN:         Thursday, July 29

  • 10 AM:  Tour of Russell Center and meeting with Russell family members
  • 2 PM:  Tour of Historic West End community

 

WHERE:       Russell Innovation Center (405 Fair Street, SW)
West End Community (Meet at the school:  765 Peeples Street, SW)
