(Thursday, 5PM; May 18, 5 PM) APS to Host First of Two Virtual Regional Budget Meetings, Today
Atlanta Public Schools (APS) will host two virtual regional budget meetings to garner feedback on the District’s proposed $1.4 billion budget for the 2021-2022 school year.
The first meeting is scheduled for today, Thursday, May 13, at 5 p.m. The second meeting is scheduled for next week, Tuesday, May 18, also at 5 p.m. Both meetings will be held via Zoom.

(FRIDAY, 11 AM) South Atlanta High School Students to be Honored with State Resolution for Winning National Junior Achievement Competition
Five South Atlanta High School students who recently won a national Junior Achievement USA competition will be honored on Friday with a state resolution, read by Georgia District 60 Rep. Kim Schofield.
The students won the first-ever 3DE National Case Competition, where teams of students from schools across the nation with 3DE programs were tasked with developing the best strategy to address a hypothetical real-world issue. 3DE is a school program designed by Junior Achievement USA to create engaging learning environments in schools that better reflect the real world, with assistance and support from the business community.
The winning team from South Atlanta was judged to have developed the best process for addressing an issue presented by The Home Depot: create an innovative solution to target do-it-yourself customers in Home Depot stores. The team entries were judged by numerous business professionals, including The Home Depot Chairman and CEO Craig Menear.
The members of the winning South Atlanta team are sophomores Justin Freeman, Jaliyah Scales, Bishop Seabrook, Jacobe Swanson and Zakeirah Thomas.

(Saturday) Deadline to Register for Atlanta Virtual Academy for 2021-22 School Year is Saturday
Atlanta Public Schools (APS) students and families have until the end of the day on Saturday, May 15 (11:59 p.m.) to register for enrollment in the District’s online academic program for the 2021-2022 school year.
As APS returns to in-person instruction in the fall, families and students who prefer to remain online may enroll in Atlanta Virtual Academy (AVA)/Atlanta Virtual Academy Jr. (AVA Jr.) – started in 2012 as an alternative for students and families who prefer a virtual academic model as the best option to serve their instructional needs.
AVA is for students in grades six through 12, while AVA Jr. is for students in kindergarten through grade five. AVA/AVA Jr. students can participate in clubs, sports and other activities at their community/home school.

Twenty APS Seniors Named 2021 Georgia Scholars
Twenty Atlanta Public Schools high school seniors have been named 2021 Georgia Scholars. Of the students named, 12 represent Grady High School, and three are from Carver Early College. The other students represent South Atlanta, North Atlanta, KIPP Atlanta Collegiate, Maynard Jackson, and Booker T. Washington high schools. This year’s APS cohort joins a total of 323 graduating seniors from across Georgia who have been recognized as 2021 Georgia Scholars.

Through the Georgia Scholar program, the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) identifies and honors high school seniors who have achieved excellence in school and community life. Students eligible for Georgia Scholar recognition are high school seniors who exhibit excellence in all phases of school life, in community activities, and in the home. APS Accounting Team Earns 12th Consecutive Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting Award from ASBO International
The Atlanta Public Schools Accounting Division has done it again!
The team, part of the District’s Office of Finance, has received the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) International Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting for the fiscal year ended 2020. This award represents a significant achievement and reflects the division’s commitment to transparency and high-quality financial reporting.
This is the 12th consecutive year that the APS Accounting team has won the award, which was done this year during a pandemic and with the team working virtually.

Registration for Summer Academic Recovery Academy Ends Friday
The deadline to register for the Atlanta Public Schools Summer Academic Recovery Academy (ARA) is Friday, May 14.
Parents have until Friday to enroll in the summer program, which addresses learning loss over the pandemic and provides much-needed credit recovery and enrichment opportunities for students.
The ARA is a full-day program, June 2 – 30, for all grade levels that includes literacy and math learning each morning and hands-on lessons through PowerUp programming in the afternoon. All students are welcome to register and some select students will be strongly encouraged to attend based on academic criteria.

GO Team Election Voting Ends Sunday, May 16
Your voice – and your vote – matter!
GO Team elections began Thursday, May 6, and voting will conclude on Sunday, May 16. So there is still time to learn about the candidates and to cast your ballot.
School governance teams include parents, instructional staff, and community representatives who work in a collaborative fashion with the school principal. These teams are responsible for establishing strategic plans for their schools, voting on innovative school-based solutions and approving the school’s budget. GO teams also review school data and provide input to the principal related to school improvement. Again, voting will be held through Sunday, May 16.
In order to cast your ballot online, you will need a personal voting link. School-based staff members will receive their personal voting links in their APS emails. You can view the full list of candidates on the GO Teams website at www.apsstrongschools.com.

La fecha límite para inscribirse en la Academia de Recuperación Académica de Verano de Atlanta Public Schools (ARA) es el viernes 14 de mayo.
