The Media Relations team develops and implements strategic communications plans to promote district programs, initiatives, events, and accomplishments to generate positive news about the district in the media. The team works to spread the good news about Atlanta Public Schools, ensuring that all messaging and work aligns with the district’s mission and vision. We write press releases, coordinate media events, assist with parent communication, and support public engagement initiatives and events.
The team works closely with the school-based Communications Ambassadors as well as with Communications Officers, and their district-based peers in the Office of Communications, to find and develop thoughtful and engaging stories that are shared with the community through electronic and print media. We advise and provide media training to principals and other senior administrators, coordinate and facilitate crisis communications strategies, and cultivate positive relationships with members of the media.
