- Parents self-report travel for their unvaccinated student Unvaccinated Student Travel Form.
- A student has tested positive through our weekly surveillance testing. Quarantine teaching would also include any close contact MES siblings.
- Students have been identified as a close contact to a student positive through our weekly surveillance testing. Close contacts are identified by our MES COVID Contact Tracing Team led by Nurse Petty.
*Students identified as COVID positive during our surveillance testing are encouraged to obtain a PCR test within 48 hours. If the PCR test is negative, please alert Nurse Petty for next steps. Otherwise, all quarantine rules apply.

What does Quaranteaching look like?
A student is approved for quarantine teaching based on one of the scenarios in the above section.
-
- Stephanie Felton receives student name from an administrator (from self reports of positive cases, close contacts or travel) or from the COVID Contact Tracing Team (as identified through surveillance testing).
- Information is sent to student’s teacher(s). The student’s earliest return date is listed in this information. Depending on each unique circumstance, the start to quarantine teaching could take up to half or full day to implement.
- Quaranteaching will include core academic areas and Specials. Homeroom teachers will share Zoom link with families and will use a Chromebook or other camera and will have the Zoom room open for the student. Work will be posted in teacher’s Google Classroom. The Chromebook or camera will be placed on a desk and will allow a student to attend class remotely and to be “present” with the class during instruction. If necessary, teacher will provide instructions for materials pick-up.
- ESOL, GATE, and SPECIAL EDUCATION will send their own links and information to families.
- Teachers will check in with student during the day via Zoom to answer questions.
- Please communicate with Nurse Petty and your teacher if your child is ill and not healthy enough to work during the quarantine period.
Quaranteaching is a different experience than virtual instruction from the 20/21 school year. Our teachers will do their best to engage your child during the quarantine teaching. The focus is on the core academic areas of Reading, ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies.
Information regarding attendance and device check-out can be found on the MES Website under COVID-19.

Attendance and Quarantining
Following student’s last day of Quaranteaching:
- Your child should be able to complete the assignments within the Google Classroom. Following the quarantine period, teachers will report to the attendance team if your child has turned in work during the quaranteaching time. If so, he or she will be marked QRT (quarantined but “present”).
- During the quarantine period, if work has not been completed, students will be marked UNA (Unexcused) unless there has been prior communication that the student is too ill to work during the quarantine period.
- Teachers will communicate any additional assignments still needed for grading purposes. This will be handled as needed on a case-by-case basis.
NOTE: The Attendance Committee meets on Thursdays. If your student ends quarantine/isolation on a Friday, the attendance codes will not be adjusted until after the Attendance Committee meets on the following Thursday. -
