Variety Show & Art Exhibit

  • The MES Variety Show is Morningside’s annual, performing arts spectacular sponsored by the PTA. The show is in its 28th year.  This year’s theme is The Greatest Show and is directed by Coach Aly Nussear.   

    In the past, the Variety Show has included a large assortment of act types. Some examples are instrumental performances, dance, gymnastics, acting skits, creative dance, comedy, etc.  We welcome creativity!

  • Sponsorships Supporting the Arts at MES:

    The families and staff at MES believe that the arts are very important to our school. Most of our arts programs, however, including the Variety Show & Art Exhibit, are not funded by our local public school system. This year we are asking for your support as a sponsor to help sustain and enhance these arts programs for our MES students. 

    Parents can support the show by purchasing a VIP Ticket Package. A limited number of VIP Ticket Packages will be available in our Online MES PTA Store in January. Parents will be informed of VIP Sales Dates via the Digital Dolphin and will be included in emails regarding Variety Show details.

    Includes 4 tickets in the front 4 rows of the theater, a t-shirt, and your name listed on the program as a Variety Show Sponsor.

    • General Tickets will be available to performer and artist families starting Tuesday, January 22 at 11:00am via the Ferst Center website.  Performers and artist families will be emailed a promo code to purchase tickets.  
      • Ticket will be available to the remainder of the MES Community on Friday, January 25 at 11:00 am.
      • Assigned seats ranging in cost from $10 to $20 are selected at the time of ticket purchase.
    • This year there is no limit on the number of tickets a family can purchase.
    • Our Variety Show typically sells out, and sells out FAST!  Get your tickets ASAP!
    • Free parking in Area 3 parking deck included in the cost of all tickets

     * Performers in the Variety Show will not require a ticket.  Anyone other than performers that would like to attend the show will need a ticket.

    How to be a part of the Variety Show…

    • Students who would like to participate in the Variety portion of the show should complete the Online Audition Form during the registration window, December 3rd-21st.   The online form will be available here and in the Digital Dolphin.
    • Auditions for the Variety Show will be held January 10 during the school day.  Parents are welcome to attend their child’s audition.  Parents will receive an email by January 13thletting them know if their child’s act was selected for the show.
    • All students whose act is not selected are encouraged to participate in the Halftime Show.  The Halftime Show is a large, energetic group number with fun choreography suited for a range of dance abilities This year’s halftime show will be directed and choreographed by Carson Hobbs. Carson is an MES parent with extensive background in dance and performing. 
    • Practice Dates for the Halftime Show will be determined closer to the show date.

    How to be a part of the Art Exibit…

    • Students who would like to have a piece of artwork displayed in the Art Exhibit should complete the Online Registration Form between Dec 3rd – January 15th.
    • All artwork must be related to our theme, The Greatest Show.
    • Artwork is due to the front office by January 18th.
    • The Art Exhibit will be set up in the front atrium of the Ferst Center at Georgia Tech on January 10, 2019.
    • Doors will open to the Art Exhibit at 1:30.
    • Tickets are not required to attend the Art Exhibit, but are required to enter the auditorium for the Variety Show portion of the show.


    Variety Show Committee:

    Please note that volunteering with the Variety Show Committee will in no way effect your child’s ability to get in to the show.  Acts are chosen by a judging committee made up of teachers, a Student Council representative, a PTA representative/s, and a former committee chair.  The volunteer committee is in no way involved with the selection process.
